RUMOR: SCRATCH: THE ULTIMATE DJ TO USE MP3 TURNTABLE

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ(Xbox 360)

Should it ever make it into stores, Genius Products’  Scratch: The Ultimate DJ might come with a very cool bonus. According to a tweet from producer Quincy Jones III (at least, we think it’s really QDIII—the account is linked from his Myspace account), the turntable controller used for the game will have extra functionality beyond the game.

QDIII’s tweet: “The scratch video game also has a real mp3 turn table with a functional fader, just like the real thing… will keep you posted on updates.”

If this turns out to be used for Scratch, it will mean that the fake musical instrument for the game is also a real musical instrument—no modding required. We can’t help but wonder, with all the lawsuits happening, if Activision is daring enough to “spontaneously” have the same idea for DJ Hero. .. » Full Story on Dcemu UK

BOTTLEROCKET DEVS RECRUITED BY NAMCO TO FINISH SCRATCH

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ(Xbox 360)

Splatterhouse2 As I reported yesterday, Bottlerocket has now been tapped by Genius Products to finish production of “Scratch: the Ultimate DJ.” But for the past few months it has been without an assignment and even that new game likely isn’t enough to keep all the folks working on “Flash” and “Splatterhouse” employed.

So when Bottlerocket couldn’t afford to keep many of them, it’s little wonder many on the “Splatterhouse” team took Namco Bandai’s offer to finish the project they started….» Full Story on Variety .

OXM UK: SCRATCH: THE ULTIMATE DJ PREVIEW

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ(Xbox 360)

OXM UK writes: “It’s fair to say we weren’t too excited about a DJ videogame. After getting it on in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, we wondered just how good spinning a few tunes and listening through headphones could be. Even art ed Curtis, a proper DJ, is convinced it’ll never work.

But you know what? After seeing it in action, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is a fascinating addition to the rhythm music genre that we now can’t wait to get our hands on.

Borrowing its fundamental interface from the one Harmonix pioneered - the turntable peripheral will feature a spinnable record flanked by the five green-red-yellow-blue-orange ‘frets’ and a whammy bar-esque crossfader - Scratch drops notes down a vinyl highway and challenges you to play along with the song, just like the guitar games…”  » Full Story on N4G

DON’T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE

on NYU Music Games

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ(Xbox 360)

Word has it that DJ Hero will focus more on mixing tracks in real time, and Scratch will be more about, well, scratching.

From Kotaku:Improvisation occurs in another of the Scratch’s segments, as portions of the note highway will encourage turntable tricks, not just button presses. This is where the “chika chika fantasy” comes in, with some 15 to 20 tricks available on the controller’s spinning wheel. The DJ will be able to throw in sounds from a pre-picked “battle record” which can be packed with custom beats, quirky sound effects or even custom-recorded sounds via a USB microphone.

Artists with original or licensed tracks in Scratch include - in order of my personal interest - Gorillaz, Eric B. and Rakim (“Don’t Sweat the Technique”, swheet!), Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Deltron 3030. Oh. and Karaoke Kanye…..» Full Story on NYU Music Games .
